CHICAGO (WBBM) -- And so it begins: a snow storm that may touch three Chicago rush hours.
"Anyone who's lived in Chicago remembers the good old-fashioned Chicago snows, and this is more reminiscent of it," said Matt Smith, spokesman for the city department of Streets and Sanitation.
Right down to the wind, which is supposed to really pick up before the storm passes.
Smith says the snow will be here awhile.
"Right now, we're looking at a two-or-three-day snow event. Hopefully the snow is spread out."
Smith says there is one good thing about the serious nature of the forecast: Drivers who usually don't slow down on snow and ice, do - when their visibility is reduced.
"And I'm talking about when you're out there early in the morning and someone passes you going 75 on an expressway when they should only be going 40, if at all."
Streets and San says it's used 100,000 fewer tons of salt this year than last.
