LAKE VILLA (STNG) -- A man was hospitalized after he was stranded when his snowmobile became stuck in a swampy area of unincorporated Lake Villa Sunday morning.
Grayslake Fire Protection responded to a call of a snowmobile operator in the water at 19542 W. Rollins Rd. at 2:55 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Peter Nowak.
A man on a snowmobile was stranded near Rollins Road and Route 45, where there is a stream and a swampy area that are part of the Lake County Forest Preserve, Nowak said.
The man did not actually go under water, but his snowmobile was stuck in the middle of the swamp, according to Gurnee Fire Battalion Chief Barry Hendy who said emergency crews received reports of different locations for the distressed snowmobile driver before finally locating him via cell phone signal in an area of unincorporated Lake Villa.
A dive team was called to the scene, although the man did not go under water, Hendy said.
The man suffered mild hypothermia, according to Hendy. He was taken to Lake Forest Acute Care Center in Grayslake for evaluation, Nowak said. His condition was unknown.
