CHICAGO (WBBM) -- There are more problems with burials and gravesites at Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip less than two weeks after the cemetery reopened following an almost four-month shutdown.
Burr Oak Cemetery was shut down by the Cook County sheriff four months ago after an alleged gravesite re-selling scheme was discovered.
The cemetery reopened two weeks ago and Sheriff Tom Dart says there are new problems where a burial is scheduled and remains are found already in the gravesite.
Dart says Burr Oak should stop burials again until it gets things straightened out.
"Right now I'm strongly suggesting them to do that. I'm hopeful that will be enough, for the time being."
Meaning, he hopes his suggestion will result in Burr Oak stopping burials. He says he may need to explore taking further action.
The man who was appointed to run Burr Oak day-to-day tells Newsradio 780 that when there has been a problem, he's contacted the family and the sheriff and they've worked it out.
