8 people, including 6 kids, injured when vehicle strikes tree

CHICAGO (STNG) -- Eight people, six of whom are children, were critically injured after the vehicle they were in struck a tree on the South Side Friday night.
At 10:15 p.m., fire crews responded to an accident in the 900 block of West Garfield Blvd. where a vehicle struck a tree, Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight said.
The accident was still under investigation as of early Saturday, but police say that for unknown reasons the driver swerved off the road, then struck the tree, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.
Taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County were; a 50-year-old woman, a 55-year-old man, a 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old girl, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. Taken to Mount Sinai Hospital was a 5-year-old boy. Taken to Comer Children's Hospital were; a 9-year-old boy, a 3-year-old boy and a 6-month-old boy, Perez said.
All the injured were in serious-to-critical condition, Knight said.
An Emergency Medical Services Plan 1 which sends five ambulances to a scene, was called for the crash. Additional ambulances were dispatched.
Police had no information as of Saturday morning on the type of vehicle, what the relation is between the children and the two adults or if any citations had yet been issued.
