Businessman sues wife, others for defamatory comments on Web site
|
CHICAGO (STNG) -- A businessman filed a lawsuit against three people — including his wife — for allegedly starting a Web site for the purpose of circulating defamatory information.
Matthew Daniel's suit claims that in August 2009, Jose Nelappana, Reshmi Lisitza and Mini Jacob--Daniel's wife--willfully published false and defamatory statements to friends, family and business associates of his. The defendants also alleged that Daniel had been involved in criminal activities and that criminal prosecution was pending against him, the suit claimed.
Daniel is the Senior Vice President of LG Industries which deals in the marketing of high-end appliances. Daniels is a resident alien and resides in Cook County, the suit said.
The suit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, claims the defendants published the following statements:
--"Federal authorities view [Daniel] as a security threat and he is under 24 hour surveillance and would be held indefinitely." "All the borders have been notified and to be on alert for him."
--"Your LG job is over, so all you can do is beg, borrow and steal. I hope you are claustrophobic. Do you feel like the walls are closing in on you?"
They also alleged Daniel abused his wife and threatened "to burn [Jacob] alive in her car and kill her parents if she reported him to immigration and customs."
The three also promised to send information about Daniel to "CNN and several other news agencies" as saying Daniel was "wanted for indecent exposure."
The five-count suit--which claims defamation, false light, negligence and negligent infliction of emotional distress--seeks more than $75,000 on each count.
