COMMENT ON THIS STORY
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Oprah Winfrey confirmed today that she will be starting her own network, but declined to say whether she would move her talk show empire from Chicago to Los Angeles, saying a decision on that issue will come soon.
"Well yes, I plan to do that, eventually I will do that," Winfrey said, referring to plans to launch the Oprah Winfrey Network.
CBS 2's Mike Flannery pressed Winfrey on whether she plans on moving to Los Angeles. "I am going to make that announcement soon," she said. "I am going to make that decision and make the announcement soon." She said a variety of factors are in play, but she declined to elaborate.
Flannery asked Winfrey what would happen to all the Harpo Studio jobs in Chicago should she decide to make the move.
"They should not worry," Winfrey said, adding that she loves Chicago but could do without the bad winters.
When asked whether Mayor Daley could do anything to keep her in Chicago, Winfrey laughed and said: "The decision hasn't been made!"
She was on Michigan Avenue today with Ellen DeGeneres, passing out copies of December's O magazine.
A report on Thursday in Deadline Hollywood said that Winfrey plans to end her syndicated talk show in 2011, which airs locally on WLS-Channel 7, and focus on the new Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
The plan, according to report, would also involve moving her production operation from the Harpo Studio on the West Side of Chicago.
For her part, DeGeneres said many people in California would "cheer" if the talk show queen made the move.
