Chemical fire burning in Naperville warehouse
|
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (STNG) -- Firefighters are fighting a blaze that followed a calcium chloride explosion at a west suburban warehouse on Thursday afternoon.
Naperville Fire Department crews responded about 12:15 p.m. to the box alarm for a structure fire at Odermath, 1651 Frontenac Rd. in Naperville, the Naperville Sun is reporting.
Odermath is one of the world’s leading firms in the field of molten metal treatment technology for iron and steelworks, foundries and the non-ferrous industry, according to the company's Web site.
The fire was contained to a conveyor area and no injuries were reported.
At least four ambulances were sent to the scene, where fire crews could not put water on the fire because it would cause a bad chemical reaction. Road salt was being applied instead as a fire suppressant.
The warehouse is at Frontenac near Diehl Road and eastbound traffic was down to one lane.
