Get ready for 11-digit dialing Chicago
|
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- You might want to start exercising your fingers now. 11-digit dialing is about to hit the city of Chicago.
Until now, only those in the suburbs have had to dial 11 digits even when they're calling in the same area code. But that changes this weekend when the city of Chicago gets a new overlay area code.
Starting Saturday, 872 goes into effect for some new numbers in the 312 and 773 areas. New numbers in Chicago could still be assigned 312 or 773 but some will get the 872 area code.
That means that even if you're calling next door, you'll have to dial 1 plus the area code ahead of the number.
