ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (STNG) -- A Palatine woman was held on $30,000 Tuesday for allegedly recording a young relative while she was in the washroom to send to a teen boy she was having an online relationship with.
Mary S. Cordes, 45, of the 1900 block of Cambridge Court, was arrested Monday and charged with child pornography and distribution of child pornography, according to a Palatine police release.
She was arrested after lewd images of a young female relative were found on her computer, according to the release. The images came to light when Cordes brought the video recording on a flash drive to her Elk Grove place of employment, where she asked a co-worker for help in editing the video. The co-worker immediately notified a supervisor who subsequently confiscated Cordes' computer and notified police.
In July 2009, Cordes began an online relationship with someone, reportedly a 16-year-old boy, who she met on Craigslist. The relationship consisted of Cordes sending and receiving e-mails of a sexual nature, the release said.
As the relationship progressed, the boy requested nude images and video files of Cordes. He, in turn, sent similar images and video of himself and further requested images of her young teenage relative, the release said.
Cordes agreed and on October 30, videotaped the teen girl using a concealed video recorder in the bathroom of her Palatine home.
Palatine police were notified by Elk Grove police and Cordes admitted to videotaping her young relative at her Palatine home, the release said. She was taken to the Rolling Meadows courthouse where bond was set at $30,000.
