Woman Killed When Van Tries To Flee Police

CHICAGO (CBS) ― A 42-year-old woman was killed Tuesday morning when two drug suspects rammed her car while fleeing from Chicago police in the Woodlawn neighborhood. The suspects were arrested after the crash.
The series of events began around 7 a.m. at 63rd Street and King Drive, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
Several Chicago police and Drug Enforcement Agency officers were conducting a traffic stop on a minivan. They got out of their undercover vehicles and approached the drug suspects' minivan, when the driver put the minivan into reverse and tried to run over the officers, Perez said.
The officers were not hurt, but the minivan rammed their vehicles. One of the officers, in fear for his life, fired a single shot at the minivan, but did not hit anyone, Perez said.
After ramming the officers' vehicles, the minivan drove east on 63rd Street and struck a car at 63rd and St. Lawrence. The 42-year-old woman who was driving that car was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she later died, police said. She has not yet been identified.
After the minivan struck the woman's car, it kept going and struck another vehicle, according to Perez. The driver of that car refused medical attention.
The minivan then came to rest and the two drug suspects got out and tried to flee on foot, Perez said. They were immediately caught and taken into custody.
No police officers were injured during the chase. The drug suspects told police they were hurt in the chase, so they were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital as a precautionary measure.
