Activists press Obama to stick with change promise
|
CHICAGO (AP) - Activists will gather in Chicago's Grant Park to both celebrate the one-year anniversary of the election of President Barack Obama and urge him to press on for change.
In a letter to Obama, advocates for issues like health care and immigration reform say they understand opposition to change is fierce.
But they say there are still issues that need urgent attention. Those include unemployment, immigration reform and global warming.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson says Obama should be commended for his work in his first year, considering the hand he was dealt with the economy. But at the same time, Jackson says more should be done.
William McNary is a director at Citizen Action/Illinois. He says the Obama administration has truly made important strides with health care reform.
