CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Some African-American Aldermen say the Daley Administration is still failing to make much progress increasing the numbers of minorities doing business with the City.
Jamie Rhee, Chicago’s Chief procurement officer, told Aldermen there was good news to report. Even in these tough economic times, the percentage of African-Americans with city construction contracts increased from 8 percent to 9 percent.
But Aldermen like Ed Smith say they are not impressed, because it’s not a big change from numbers that were dismal to begin with.
Procurement officer Rhee says the City will be taking a closer look at the numbers, to determine which efforts are succeeding, and which must be changed.
