Person Fatally Struck By Train

CHICAGO (STNG) -- A person pulled from the CTA Blue Line subway tracks in the Loop on Wednesday afternoon is reportedly dead, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
About 1:20 p.m., fire personnel responded to 118 S. Dearborn in the Blue Line subway for reports of a person on the tracks, according to Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor.
Power was shut off to the tracks in the area of the incident, according to the CTA Web site. CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said power has been turned off on the southbound tracks between the Grand and Racine stations.
Northbound trains were operating, but they have been bypassing the Monroe station, she said.
The person was removed from the tracks but was dead on the scene, MacGregor said. No hospital transport was made, he said.
The person reportedly jumped in front of a train according to initial unconfirmed dispatch reports. This could not immediately be confirmed.
For the time-being, the CTA is recommending commuters take the No. 22 Clark, No. 36 Broadway or the No. 65 Grand buses as alternate transportation until power is restored.
Police did not immediately have details. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office had not been notified of a fatality as of 2:10 p.m., a spokesman said.
