Two dead, two injured in Englewood shooting
|
CHICAGO (STNG) -- A man and woman were killed and two others were wounded in a shooting Tuesday afternoon in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.
Police responded to a shooting in the 6800 block of South Ashland Avenue at 4:30 p.m., according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
Nineteen-year-old Shane Burnett, of the 6300 block of S. Honore St., was pronounced dead at 5:13 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office which listed the address of the shooting as 6857 S. Ashland Ave.
A woman in her 40s -- who remained unidentified early Wednesday -- also suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 7:21 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.
The deceased man was found in an alley near Ashland Avenue, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. The woman was also found nearby and was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "very critical condition."
Two other gunshot victims were found within a block radius, Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said. Both victims were taken to Holy Cross Hospital in "stable" condition.
Police said the two adult male gunshot victims were on the corner of 69th Street and Ashland Avenue at the time of the shooting and may have ran over to the 6900 block of South Justine Street after being shot.
Authorities said the victims may have been shot in a drive-by attack. Witnesses at the scene, however, told police it was unclear whether the shooting was a drive-by.
The shootings happened near stores and detectives were checking to see if any surveillance videos caught the shooting, police said.
A motive was unknown and offender information was not available Wednesday night.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
