CHICAGO (STNG) -- John Ambrose -- a deputy U.S. marshal in Chicago convicted of leaking sensitive information about a mob witness -- was sentenced Tuesday to four years in prison, the Sun-Times is reporting.
Ambrose could have faced up to 15 years.
He was convicted in April in what prosecutors say is the only security violation in the history of a program designed to protect witnesses who testify against mobsters and terrorists.
Ambrose, who has been on unpaid leave from the Marshals Service, was found to have leaked information regarding admitted mob hit man Nicholas Calabrese, who became the prosecution’s star witness in the landmark Operation Family Secrets mob trial.
