'Citibank bandit' hits two Loop banks in two hours
|
CHICAGO (STNG) - Authorities suspect a serial bank robber dubbed the "Citibank Bandit" was involved in two robberies that occurred Downtown within a two-hour period Thursday afternoon.
The first robbery happened at a Fifth Third Bank branch at 57 E. Randolph St. about 2 p.m. according to FBI spokesman Ross Rice.
A man entered the bank, handed the teller a note and demanded cash, according to a release from FBI. The man implied he had a weapon, but none was observed. No injuries were reported.
After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the man fled on foot, the release said. He fled eatsbound, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
The man was described as 35-45, 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds with medium build, medium complexion and a bit of facial hair. He was wearing a dark-colored two-tone fleece jacket, dark-colored baseball cap, dress slacks and white dress shirt, the release said.
A Citibank at 111 W. Jackson Blvd. was robbed by the same individual at 3:40 p.m., according to the release. The man apparently changed into a black jacket and was carrying a black umbrella.
In the second robbery, he again handed the teller a note and demanded cash. He implied he had a weapon, although none was observed. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled. No one was injured, the release said.
The FBI believes the suspect involved in the Thursday robberies is the same individual known as the "Citibank Bandit," responsible for four other bank robberies since February.
The previous robberies took place at Citibank branches at 11 S. LaSalle St. on Feb. 11, 100 S. Michigan on May 29, 222 W. Adams on June 19, and 100 S. Michigan on July 17.
