CHICAGO (STNG) -- A west suburban man was killed Wednesday night in a multi-vehicle crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
Stefan Stave, 26, of Cambria Ln. in Lombard was killed in the crash, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. Stave died of multiple injuries from a motorcycle accident and his death was ruled an accident, according to results of a Thursday autopsy.
About 6:15 p.m., a motorcycle heading south in the local lanes of the Ryan (I-90/94) near 30th Street came upon a minivan stopped in traffic for an unknown reason, according to a statement from Illinois State Police District Chicago Lt. Luis Gutierrez.
The cyclist was unable to avoid the van and rear-ended another passenger vehicle, police said. The impact caused the motorcyclist to fall in the right lane of traffic where he was struck by an oncoming semi.
All southbound local lanes of the Ryan were closed for several hours while police investigated the wreck, but were reopened as of 10 p.m., the statement said.
Illinois State Police continue to investigate and no citations had been issued as of noon Thursday.
