CHICAGO (CBS/STNG) ― Quick action by Chicago firefighters kept a fast-moving, extra-alarm fire on the city's Northwest Side from spreading.
A clothing liquidation store at 5617 W. Belmont Ave. went up in flames around 9:40 p.m. Sunday.
At one point, flames climbed 20 feet into the air. But firefighters were able to surround the fire and keep it contained to just one business on the busy block. The businesses next door were saved.
"We had some excellent, experienced troops here that made some great calls," said Deputy Fire Commissioner Gene Ryan. "But before that, the first-in companies really made some tremendous calls asking for help right away."
No one was injured in the fire. The cause is under investigation.
