ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (STNG) -- A West Chicago man was killed Wednesday evening when a 2,000 pound metal coil crushed him while working in Elk Grove Village.
Dennis Woods, 63, of 706 Lincoln Ave., was working at 2200 Pratt Blvd. when he was crushed under the coil while working, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Elk Grove Village police responded to the incident just before 4 p.m., which occurred at the Material Sciences Corporation, a company that deals with metal coils, police said.
According to the company's Web site, they are a "leading provider of material-based solutions for acoustical and coating applications" and work with the "automotive, home appliance, telecommunications, HVAC, electronics, lawn and power equipment, and construction industries."
Pronouncement information for Woods was not available, nor were details surrounding the accident.
No one else was injured on the scene, police said.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident, as it does all workplace fatalities, OSHA spokesman Scott Allen said.
An autopsy for Woods is slated for Thursday.
