Cops use taser on man in Lincoln Park
|
CHICAGO (CBS/STNG) ― What started as a late-night traffic stop near the Lincoln Park Zoo ended with police using a Taser on the driver.
Police stopped a car on Stockton Drive between Fullerton Parkway and Webster Avenue, and when officers asked the man to get out of the car, they spotted a gun inside.
The driver ran away on foot, but officers caught him in the 2300 block of North Lincoln Park West, just a narrow strip of parkland away from where police first pulled the man over.
The man began to fight with the officer, prompting the officer to Taser the man, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.
Police recovered a weapon, but no charges have been filed as of 5:50 a.m. The man could be charged with unlawful use of a weapon, Gaines said.
Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
The man was hospitalized for observation as a precaution.
