Chicago cop accused of attacking CTA driver
|
CHICAGO (STNG) - An off-duty Chicago Police officer is accused of assaulting a CTA bus driver last weekend after the driver cut him off while the officer rode his bicycle in the Loop.
CTA Spokeswoman Noelle Gaffney said the attack happened aboard a No.62 bus near State/Monroe on Saturday, Sept. 12 about 9:20 p.m.
According to Gaffney the male bicyclist became upset at the bus driver for allegedly cutting him off in traffic, and the officer boarded the bus and assaulted the male driver.
The bus driver was injured and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Two officers already on board the bus arrested the off-duty officer following the assault.
Ilana Rosenzweig, a spokesman for the Independent Police Review Authority, said the agency is investigating allegations of a police officer striking a bus driver.
“Its under investigation,” Rosenzweig, who said she did not know whether the officer has been disciplined for his actions.
