CTA bus route changes take effect

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Schedule changes take effect Sunday on a number of CTA bus routes.
Two bus lines have the biggest changes.
The 67/67th-69th-71st bus has been extended to the Ford City mall instead of its old terminus, at 71st Street and Pulaski Road. And the 157/Streeterville and 38/Ogden-Taylor buses are being combined into one route. The new route will still be known as 157/Streeterville-Taylor, but buses will no longer run on Harrison Street between Clinton and Canal Streets, or north of Washington Street along Canal, Lake and Desplaines Streets.
Hours are being adjusted on several other routes. Midday service is being added on the 18/16th-18th route between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Weekend service on the 53A/South Pulaski route will be extended from 7:15 p.m. until 10:20 p.m., with the frequency of service on weekends to every 15-20 minutes. Service will end at 6 p.m. daily on the University of Chicago-funded 171/University of Chicago-Hyde Park and 172/University of Chicago-Kenwood routes.
Three routes are being dropped completely. The University of Chicago withdrew funding for the 173/University of Chicago-Lakeview Express and the 174/University of Chicago-Garfield bus. Ridership dropped to an average of nine an hour on the 200/Main Shuttle in Evanston, once the Rand-McNally facility at the west end of the route closed early this year.
