Rabid Bat Found In Naperville Backyard
|
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- A rabid bat was discovered in the Will County portion of Naperville recently, and health officials are investigating whether there might have been any human exposure.
The live bat was discovered in the backyard of a home on Tussell Street in Naperville this past Saturday, according to the Will County Health Department. Officials from the Illinois Department of Public Health confirmed on Tuesday that the bat was rabid.
Officials later learned that the bat was first seen hanging under a trampoline in someone's backyard on Aug. 16. Will County health officials are now trying to determine whether anyone came into contact with the bat, and whether anyone needs to receive medication.
Bats are the main rabies threat in Illinois. Will County officials have discovered four rabid bats since May 1, and the state has discovered at least 38.
