Stimulus money means real jobs
Craig Dellimore Reporting

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- City and state officials say money from the federal stimulus package means real jobs for local residents.
And, WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore says the state is ready with some hard numbers to back up the assertion.
A lot of the federal recovery funds slated for this state are for road projects. Dick Smith, the Illinois Department of Transportation’s director of Planning and Programming, says yes, that money means jobs.
He says IDOT uses a formula of 12 jobs created for evey million dollars of investment.
But, that’s just an estimate. Smith says, if you get the records of projects that have been completed and paid for, you can get a real number.
Smith says there have been 1332 direct jobs created, as of Wednesday.
As more contracts are awarded and construction continues, of course the number will go up.
So far, about $500 million worth of projects have been lined up with federal recovery funds. $171 million has been paid out to date.
