Bill Clinton pitches energy efficiency at Palmer House
Steve Miller Reporting
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Former President Bill Clinton has told several hundred leaders of higher education meeting in Chicago that the "least sexy thing" is the best thing - when it comes to fixing one key part of the environment.
Former President Clinton was almost half an hour late for his speech to the College and University Climate Commitment Summit meeting in Chicago.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have just enjoyed the wonders of Chicago traffic jams."
Mr. Clinton says it's time to spend some money on energy efficiency. Specifically, making existing buildings more energy efficient.
Granted, he says. It's not as exciting as an electric car.
"But the least sexy thing has the highest return. Energy efficiency gives you more jobs and more savings for less money than any of that stuff that may be more intellectually stimulating but will do less to save the planet for our children and grandchildren."
By the time Mr. Clinton left the Palmer House, a crowd of several hundred had gathered on the State Street sidewalks - camera phones in hand.
