CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The Chicago Bears are kicking off the 2009 season with having to set the record straight on some media hype. New quarterback Jay Cutler arrived Thursday and denies a face to face confrontation at some point last month with Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher.
Cutler said Urlacher called him yesterday and they both laughed about it. He said there is nothing between the two of them. There were published articles that said there had been some sort of power struggle but now we can lay that to rest.
Worried about the Cutler-receiver connection? Cutler said he spent the last few weeks working with the receivers in advance of training camp. Devin Hester admitted he was effected in the return game by moving to receiver last year, but is better prepared to handle it now.
Still some questions left regarding the back field but off-season shoulder surgery leaves strong safety Kevin Payne feeling his best since high school. Payne said he will no longer use a neck roll to protect his shoulder, which he said did effect his range of motion.
Some good news in the back field is that running back Kevin Jones says he is twenty-pounds lighter than he was last year and looks ready to make a big contribution.
Some other minor notable stories are that Defensive tackle Marcus Harrison needs to pass his physical otherwise he begins camp on the non-football injury list and Brian Urlacher has arrived!
