Gas Leak In Hammond Forces Home Evacuations



HAMMOND, Ind. (CBS) ― A gas main blew in Hammond, Indiana causing a gas leak at 169th and Ridgeland.

At about 3:15 p.m. a construction worker who was working on a street hit an eight-inch gas main that blew.

At times, the plume of natural gas shot 60 to 70 feet in the air.

At least 15 to 20 homes in the neighborhood have been evacuated.

NIPSCO is on the scene. There is no word of any injuries.
