Woman tries get hit man to kill for $200, above-ground pool

CHICAGO (STNG) - An Indiana woman attempted to hire a person cooperating with federal authorities to find a hit man to kill her ex-boyfriend because he was trying to take custody of one of her children, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court Tuesday.
Heidi L. Friedburg and William C. Alexander were named in the criminal complaint filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court for conspiring to have someone commit murder in exchange for an above-ground pool and approximately $200. Friedburg, according to the complaint, lives in New Carlisle, Ind., which is near South Bend.
Federal agents arrested Friedburg and Alexander on Monday, attempting to give cash and the pool to the cooperating witness at a Lansing parking lot. Following their arrest they admitted to trying to hire a hit man to kill her ex-boyfriend, because he was trying to take away her child.
According to the complaint, Friedburg initially contacted the cooperating witness through the social-networking website MySpace June 23 asking for help, and after corresponding several times through MySpace Friedburg sent a text message to the cooperating witness that stated “Get rid of someone 4 me.”
She later told the cooperating witness the man she wanted killed was her ex-boyfriend, and that he was taking her to court so a DNA test could be done, so that he could take custody of one of her children.
The cooperating witness contacted federal authorities after gaining knowledge of Friedburg’s intent of trying to get him to be involved in the murder of her ex-boyfriend, the complaint said.
Friedburg allegedly went to the cooperating witness because they knew each other for approximately 10 years, and used to be co-workers, the complaint said.
Through text messages, Friedburg wanted the cooperating witness to find someone to kill her ex-boyfriend, and to make the death look like an accident. In one text Friedbug said the death needs to look like an accident “so it doesn’t come back to me.”
The cooperating witness agreed to go along with the plan to find someone to kill her ex-boyfriend, and told Friedburg he had a guy in Chicago willing to do the job. After telling the cooperating witness she didn’t have money to pay the hit man, because she was in debt, she said she could give the hit man $200 and her above-ground pool. This was agreed upon, the complaint said.
During the conversations through text messages, Friedburg continually told the cooperating witness that Alexander, who she lived with, knew of the plan to kill the ex-boyfriend.
Friedburg, Alexander agreed to meet the cooperating witness and the hit man at the Sleep Inn parking lot in Lansing to talk about the proposed killing, and Friedburg and Alexander gave the cooperating inside the cooperating witness' vehicle an envelope containing $200, several photos of her ex-boyfriend printed off MySpace, and his address, the complaint said.
The cooperating witness than told Friedburg and Alexander the hit-man would probably knock her ex-boyfriend off his motorcycle and than run him over. After hearing this Friedburg nodded her head and said "OK," the complaint said.
After getting out of the vehicle, and going to Alexander’s truck to get the dissembled above-ground pool, FBI agents arrested the pair, the complaint said.
During a follow-up investigation, Friedburg admitted to wanting to have her ex-boyfriend killed after he filed paternity papers to take custody of one of her children. Alexander admitted to having knowledge of the murder-for-hire plan.
