FBI takes over investigation of package found at Boeing

CHICAGO (STNG)  -- The investigation into a suspicious package found in the Loop near the Boeing building on Monday morning has been handed over to the FBI.

The package -- a small box inside of a plastic bag-- was found in the 100 block of North Riverside Plaza about 9:22 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

The police Bomb and Arson Unit was notified, and a HazMat Unit was also alerted, Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight said.

No injuries were reported and the scene was cleared as of 12:45 p.m. The investigation was handed over to the Joint Terrorism Task Force because the Boeing building is federal property, Perez said.

No explosive material was found, Perez said.
