Legislator livens parades with cartwheels
|
DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) -- State Rep. Elaine Nekritz has proved twice again that she's one politician who's not afraid of doing the flip-flop.
The Northbrook Democrat was a competitive gymnast when she was a girl, and she still knows how to turn a mean cartwheel. For the past several years, she's been performing the stunt at Fourth of July parades throughout her district, which includes portions of Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Northbrook and Prospect Heights.
This year, she did it in Des Plaines and Northbrook.
Nekritz says she's performed as many as five cartwheels in a row, but now limits herself to two to avoid dizziness. But she points out that she repeats the stunt many times in each parade.
