Ill. gears up for Fourth of July fireworks
|
Despite cloudy skies, communities across Illinois are gearing up for fireworks displays, while others are recovering from events that've already been held.
In Peoria and East Peoria, a spokesman says corporate sponsors are paying for a bigger ``Red, White and Boom'' celebration than usual Saturday.
Fireworks are also scheduled for Saturday at Chicago's Navy Pier. The Mayor's Office of Special Events says about 1 million people watched the fireworks along the lakefront Friday.
The Great Lakes Naval Station in northern Illinois is planning a fireworks display open to sailors and the public.
In southern Illinois, organizers are hoping rain holds off long enough for their shows to be held.
The National Weather Service suggests fireworks fans check their local forecasts before heading out.
