Fireworks used to blow up portable toilet at Diversey Harbor
CHICAGO (STNG) -- A police Bomb and Arson unit is investigating an early Friday incident in which fireworks were apparently used to blow up a portable toilet at Diversey Harbor.
Concerned citizens notified police of the explosion after hearing loud noises and a series of car alarms going off in the 2800 block of North Lake Shore Drive about 3 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
A "Port-A-Potty" was damaged by some kind of "unknown explosive device," Perez said. There were no reports of injuries and only the portable toilet was damaged following the explosion.
A Town Hall District lieutenant said the device was believed to have been some kind of fireworks and said the incident appeared to have been a prank.
A police Bomb and Arson unit was notified of the explosion Friday morning and remained at the scene investigating.
Police were investigating the incident as criminal damage to property but did not have an offender in custody Friday morning.
