Cop hurt when squad plows into West Side building
|
CHICAGO (CBS) ― A Chicago Police officer was hospitalized in good condition early Tuesday when his squad car slammed into a building on the city's West Side.
The squad car -- which was not on its way to an emergency call -- was eastbound on Madison Street around 2:40 a.m. when a car that had been parked started moving and pulled out in front of him in the 2500 block of West Madison Street, according got police News Affairs Officer David Banks.
The officer swerved to avoid a car that pulled out in front of him, and avoided the car, but skidded across the roadway and broadsided a building at Madison Street and Campbell Avenue.
The squad car was demolished, but the officer was reported in good condition at Stroger Hospital of Cook County.
The police car involved was assigned to the Wood District.
