Bond for Old Navy, Subway robbery suspect
|
Bond was set at $400,000 Wednesday for a Far South Side man charged with the April 13 armed robbery of an Old Navy clothing store on the Near North Side.
The suspect -- an alleged gang member with a criminal history -- may be linked to several other armed robberies on the North Side, police said.
Jon Giles, 29, of the 12200 block of South Harvard Avenue, is charged with two counts of armed robbery, according to police.
The Chicago Police Fugitive Task Force arrested Giles without incident at 10:45 a.m. Monday at 27 E. 113th St. for the April 13 armed robbery of an Old Navy store at 1569 N. Kingsbury Ave. and another April armed robbery, police said.
In the Old Navy theft, Giles allegedly entered the store, produced a handgun and demanded cash from an employee, according to a police report.
He fled east on foot with $350, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin, who was citing court records.
Giles is also accused of robbing the Subway restaurant at 1817 W. Montrose on April 25.
In that robbery, Giles pulled a gun on the manager and escaped with $200, prosecutors allege.
Giles left a fingerprint on a hanger in the Old Navy robbery which was later used to link him to the Subway robbery, Conklin said, citing court records.
He may also be responsible for several other armed robberies in the Belmont Area, which includes the Town Hall, Rogers Park, Lincoln, Near North, Belmont and Central police districts, according to the report.
Giles is allegedly affiliated with the Four Corner Hustler street gang and has at least 11 prior arrests in Chicago, according to police. Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
His next court date has been set for July 6, Conklin said.
