Fans pay tribute at Jackson's boyhood home

GARY, Ind. (CBS/WBBM) ― There is a tremendous sense of loss in Gary, Ind. – and pride – for a favorite son who put his hometown on the map as the birthplace of a music family sensation.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports from the house at 2300 Jackson Street that the Jackson family once called home. Hundreds of people have turned out to show their respect.
People have been lighting candles in vigil, as well. They've been placing stuffed animals and flowers at the door Jackson came in and out of as a child.
Those who knew the boy who became known as the King of Pop have many fond memories of him.
Mabel Moore holds in her hands a picture given to her by the Jackson family more than 20 years ago. It was signed, "I will always love you." Moore lives right across the street from Jackson's childhood home.
"He was just a normal child (and) had a lot of energy," she said.
Jo Ann Sams witnessed young Michael Jackson's energy firsthand at a talent show at Roosevelt High School.
The audience went "crazy, because he was so young and so talented," she said.
"He was the star of the talent show," agreed Vickie Horton, who knew the Jackson family. "And they did win the talent show that night. And it's a wonderful thing to remember."
