Boy, 2, critically injured after being hit by car

GLENWOOD, Ill. (STNG)  -- A 2-year-old boy was critically injured Wednesday night when he was hit by a car in south suburban Glenwood.

The child was struck by a vehicle about 8:15 p.m. at 329 Virginia Ave., according to Glenwood Fire Dept. Chief Kevin Welsh.

He was taken by ambulance to St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Chicago Heights, but was later airlifted to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was in critical condition Thursday afternoon, Welsh said.

Welsh would not confirm or deny reports that the child was accidentally run over by a vehicle his mother was driving. Glenwood police were not immediately available to comment.
