Cicero officer charged with stealing from police group
|
MAYWOOD (STNG) -- A west suburban police officer was arrested Wednesday and charged with skimming tens of thousands of dollars from his department's fraternal organization.
Cicero police Officer Gerald Bossolono, 46, was taken into custody by Cook County State's Attorney's office investigators after reporting for work at the police department Wednesday morning, according to a release from the state's attorney's office.
Bossolono, a 10-year veteran of the department, was charged with one count of felony theft following an investigation by the state's attorney's Financial Crimes Unit, the release said. The Class 2 felony carries a maximum of seven years in prison upon conviction.
According to investigators, he is alleged to have used his position as treasurer of the of the Cicero Police Benevolent Association to steal more than $70,000, the release said. The organization is made up of police officers who raise funds through dues and social functions.
Bossolono is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday morning in Maywood.
