Flood watch in the suburbs as power restored

CHICAGO (STNG) - Commonwealth Edison had restored power to all but about 250 customers Sunday night after severe thunderstorms Friday knocked out power to close to 245,000 customers in the Chicago area.
As of 8:30 p.m. Sunday, ComEd crews were working to return service to the last 250 customers, according to a release from ComEd, which said the remaining outages were expected to be repaired by late Sunday. Within the first 48 hours after the storm, crews restored power to more than 98 percent of affected customers, the release said.
More than 450 crews have been working 16-hour shifts since powerful thunderstorms ripped through the Chicago area Friday. The storms brought high winds in excess of 60 miles per hour and, in some areas, the winds uprooted trees, and heavy rains affected ComEd power lines and other equipment, according to the release.
Damage from the storms required more than 11 miles of electrical line to be replaced, the release said.
Meanwhile, some suburban residents are now turning their attention to another weather-related problem – potential flooding.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Lake, Cook, Kane and Kendall counties, and a flood advisory has been issued for McHenry County.
The flood warning encompasses the Des Plaines River near Russell and Gurnee in Lake County and near Des Plaines in Cook County, as well as the Fox River near Montgomery in Kane and Kendall counties. The flood advisory is for the Fox River at Algonquin, the National Weather Service said.
The warning for Lake County expires Thursday evening, in Cook County it expires Friday afternoon, and in Kane and Kendall counties it lasts through Saturday evening, depending on when the rivers in the area are expected to fall back below flood stage, according to the weather service.
