Errant dogs, owners targeted by village
|
CHATHAM, Ill. (AP) -- The dog days have arrived in Chatham.
The village board of the central Illinois community has taken up problem dog leavings, and the town's police are targeting an errant bulldog.
Chatham's lack of an ordinance regarding the disposal of dog waste was brought up this week during an administrative committee meeting.
Police Chief Jim Dodson said Chatham's dog ordinance at one time included a section on waste disposal, but for some unknown reason the language was removed when village codes were updated.
The village board is considering reinstituting an ordinance requiring residents who walk their dogs to clean up after them.
Meanwhile, Chatham police are working with Sangamon County Animal Control to have an American Bulldog classified as dangerous or vicious. People complain the bulldog is attacking other dogs and have gone after people.
