The federal government now says a 36-year-old Lake in the Hills man - accused of possessing vials of deadly pufferfish toxin - intended to kill his wife.
It was almost a year ago when the story of Edward Bachner first made news nearly a year ago when he was charged with possessing TTX - pufferfish toxin.
Now, a new indictment accuses Bachner of stockpiling the deadly toxin to kill his wife and collect 20 million dollars in life insurance.
The new indictment suggests Bachner may have tried to solicit his wife's death as early as 2005.
It also says Bachner filed false claims for federal income tax refunds.
Bachner is in federal custody. The U.S. Attorney's office says he is scheduled to appear in court Thursday for arraignment on the new indictment.
Newsradio 780 is trying to reach Edward Bachner's attorney for comment.
