FLOSSMOOR, Ill. (STNG) -- The death of a Near North Side woman struck by a golf cart at a south suburban country club on Sunday afternoon has been ruled an accident, according to results of an autopsy conducted Tuesday.
Barbara Zoub, 78 of 25 E. Superior St., was a struck by a golf cart at Idlewild Country Club at 19155 Dixie Hwy in an unincorporated area near Flossmoor, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The golf pro at Idlewild told the Sun-Times that Zoub may have been accidentally hit by the cart she and her golf partner were using Sunday.
The partner "thought he might have hit the brake on the electric car, and stepped on the accelerator, and that's when he proceeded to catch her leg and foot," said golf pro Tony Makarek, reached at his home Monday evening.
Cook County Sheriff's police are investigating.
Authorities have said the golf cart was thought to have been traveling about 15 mph at the time of the accident.
Zoub was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 7:58 p.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy Tuesday found she died of multiple injuries from a golf cart striking a pedestrian and her death was ruled an accident.
Zoub spent much of her life working in real estate, said friend and colleague Darlene Little of Rubloff Residential Properties on North Halsted. Zoub had been working for Rubloff since 2004 as a residential real estate broker.
Little said Zoub loved golf and loved to travel. "She was a wonderful lady, very energetic and loved and enjoyed the game of golf."
