ELGIN, Ill. (STNG) -- Two women were hospitalized in critical condition following a three-vehicle accident Monday night in northwest suburban Elgin.
At about 8:32 p.m. Monday, Elgin police responded to a report of a serious crash on Randall Road, just south of Hopps Road. Responding officers found a three-vehicle crash had occurred and Elgin Fire Department personnel were extracting victims.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2009 Nissan Maxima driven by Kathleen Grooms, 45 of South Elgin was northbound on Randall Road when it crossed the center line and struck a 1997 Cadillac Eldorado driven by Jaclyn Jankiewicz, 21, of South Elgin, the release said.
The crash spun the Nissan around to where it was facing southbound and it was struck in the rear by a 1994 Chevy Prism driven by Matthew Grabow, 47, of Elgin.
All three drivers were transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, with Grooms and Jankiewicz later being flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in critical condition. Grabow was later released from St. Joseph.
No charges had been filed as of early Tuesday afternoon and the crash remains under investigation by the police Traffic Investigations Unit. Anyone with information should contact Sgt. Matt Udelhoven at (847) 289-2661.
