(WBBM) -- A week after he was brutally beaten and robbed, a pizza delivery man is finding out that strangers care about his plight.
Last Tuesday night, Stephen Walker had just delivered a pizza to a condominium on Clyde Ave. in south Evanston. As he was in the courtyard, two robbers jumped him, beat him severely and drove off in his 2003 Kia. Omar Gutierrez (pictured) saw it happen from his window overlooking the courtyard.
Walker survived the attack but the car that he used to make his living was gone and Gutierrez felt badly for him. So he set up a website and sent out tweets on Twitter, asking people to help.
As of this past midnight, he'd raised more than $1,800 toward a new car for Walker. He says he's been overwhelmed by the response.
Gutierrez, an architect who is himself out of work, plans to present Walker with the check tomorrow night, exactly a week after he was attacked.
