FLOSSMOOR, Ill. (STNG) -- Last updated at: 11:59 AM, Jun 2, 2009
A woman is in custody Tuesday after a gun was allegedly fired during a commotion in the 3000 block of Polly Lane in Flossmoor.
Police were called to the area at 5 p.m. Monday by residents concerned about a group of between 20 and 30 teenagers congregating on front lawns and in the street.
Flossmoor Deputy Police Chief Mike Pulec said while police were responding to the incident another call came in that a gunshot was fired. Pulec said it was too early to determine if the gun was pointed at anyone, but no injuries were reported.
Most of the teens fled as police arrived, but several others remained to tell police where the gunshot came from, Pulec said. Some of the teens, as well as neighbors, said they did not hear a gunshot.
Evidence technicians searched the area for evidence of a shot being fired. Pulec wouldn't comment on the results of the search.
Police would not release the name of the woman taken into custody. They said she was taken from the house that the teens were congregating near but are still investigating if the woman lived in the house.
Pulec said it appeared the teens were preparing to fight, but he was not sure what about. He said the teens police spoke with were from Homewood, Flossmoor and neighboring villages. He said there was no indication that the incident was gang related.
Police believe someone living in the same house from which the shot was fired was involved in the fight.
