Sending A Nude Photo Text Message A Crime?

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (IRN) -- “Sexting” could be a crime starting in January, now that the Illinois Senate has passed a bill that would make the move—sending an electronic nude photo without permission of the subject of the photo—a misdemeanor.
The Illinois Senate Thursday unanimously voted to target only the intended recipient who passes on a nude photo without the permission of the subject. The measure makes sexting a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $2,500 fine.
State Sen. Kimberly Lightford (D-Maywood), the sponsor, says too many young people find themselves in a situation where they send a photo for one person’s eyes only, but that photo ends up on the Internet. She says the bill should stop these photo recipients from trying to intimidate and humiliate the sender by sharing the photo with the world.
The House already passed the bill, but the language was tightened up in the Senate, so the House has to vote on it one more time.
