AURORA, Ill. (STNG) -- An Aurora man was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in jail and ordered to undergo sex offender probation for showing his genitals to a 3-year-old boy while he worked on an ice cream truck in west suburban Sugar Grove in 2007.
Douglas R. Jones, 48, of the 100 block of Middle Avenue in Aurora, was sentenced to 30 months of specialized sex offender probation and a term of 15 days in the Kane County Jail for his conviction on one count of sexual exploitation of a child, a class 4 felony. The jail term is to be served on weekends, according to a Kane County State’s Attorney’s office release.
Jones was convicted on Jan. 13 by a Kane County jury following the June 25, 2007 incident in which Jones was working on an ice cream truck when a customer, who was with his three-year-old son, saw Jones’ genitalia hanging out of the bottom of his shorts, the release said.
In addition to Jones’ specialized sex offender probation, he must also register as a convicted sex offender for the next 10 years and the state will seek to have Jones’ teaching certification revoked.
According to media reports, Jones was employed as a substitute teacher for the Aurora East school district at the time but was not allowed to teach following the incident.
