CHICAGO, Ill. (STNG) -- The death of a 3-year-old Roselle Jaquan Reed, fatally shot in the chest early Sunday on the West Side has been ruled a homicide, according to his autopsy. A slew of shootings left at least 13 people wounded and five people dead citywide this weekend.
Reed's homicide happened less than a mile from where a 32-year-old man was gunned down early Saturday on a sidewalk outside his home.
Reed was shot in the 4700 block of West Van Buren Street and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he died, the Cook County Medical Examiner said.
A weapon was accidentally discharged at the residence, with two juveniles were present. The shooting is initially being classified as an accident, Banks said.
The Illinois Dept. of Children and Family Services is not investigating the boy's death, spokesman Jimmie Whitelow said Sunday.
No one is in custody for the shooting, although the death remained under investigation by Harrison Area detectives.
•IN A SEPARATE incident less than a mile from where Jaquan was shot, Terry Johnson, of 4817 W. Polk St., was fatally shot on a sidewalk near his home at 2:21 a.m. Saturday, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 4:42 a.m. Saturday.
Johnson died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to a Sunday autopsy, which ruled his death a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.
The homicide appeared to have been drug-related and remained under investigation by Grand Central Area detectives Sunday afternoon.
•A MAN was shot in the leg while driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway Sunday morning on the South Side, Illinois State Police said.
The shooting happened at 10:25 a.m. in a northbound lane of the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94) between the 95th Street and 79th Street exits, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Rene Benavidez said.
“The man had no idea why he was shot,” Benavidez said. “He just heard some noises, felt pain and noticed his leg was bleeding,”
He is in John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in “stable” condition and was talking to detectives Sunday afternoon, Benavidez said.
•ANTHONY THOMSON, 19, was shot to death early Sunday outside a West Side McDonald's restaurant.
The shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. on the 5100 block of West North Avenue, according to police News Affairs. Thomson, of North Pine Ave., was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
Grand Central Area detectives are investigating
•A 25-YEAR-OLD WOMAN, Jessica Bazan, was shot to death Saturday night in the Southeast Side’s South Chicago neighborhood.
The shooting happened between 10 and 10:15 p.m. at 83rd Street and Brandon Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer John Henry. The woman was in a car when she was shot in an apparent drive-by, Henry said.
Bazan, of South Baltimore Avenue, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:51 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. Police said Bazan had a gunshot to the abdomen.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
•A VICTIM is in critical condition after being shot multiple times in the South Side Chatham neighborhood late Saturday.
The shooting happened about 11:55 p.m. on the 600 block of East 87th Street, according to police News Affairs Officer David Banks.
The victim has multiple gunshot wounds and is in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "critical"condition, Banks said.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
•A VICTIM WAS critically wounded Saturday night in a shooting in the Southeast Side’s South Chicago neighborhood.
Emergency crews responding to a person shot at 83rd Street and Brandon Avenue about 10:15 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis.
The victim is in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
•ARMANDO HUERTA, 18, is dead after being shot multiple times in a parking lot near his home early Saturday in west suburban Addison.
Huerta, of Dale Drive in Addison, was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at 5:30 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
Addison police responded to a call of shots fired in a rear parking lot at 307 Dale Dr. at 3:33 a.m. and found Huerta with multiple gunshot wounds, according to an Addison police release.
Police said Huerta was conscious when crews arrived.An autopsy is scheduled.
Addison police are investigating.
•HARRY JOHNSON was shot dead on his West Side block early Saturday in what police are calling a possibly narcotics-related shooting.
Johnson, 32, of West Polk St., was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 4:42 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner said.
Police responded to a shooting in the 4800 block of West Polk Street at 2:21 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli, who said the vicitim was shot on a sidewalk near his home.
The shooting is believed to have been narcotics-related, Mirabelli said.
No one was in custody as Harrison Area detectives are investigate.
•A 17-YEAR-OLD was shot Saturday night in the Far South Side’s Pullman neighborhood.
Emergency crews responded to the shooting at 12322 S. Parnell Ave. about 7 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis, who said the gunshot victim is a 17-year-old male. He is in Metro South Hospital in Blue Island in “stable” condition, Curtis said.
Police said two offenders wearing dark hoodies were seen running from the scene of the shooting. No one is in custody as Calumet Area detectives are investigate.
•A 19-YEAR-OLD Maywood man was shot to death in the West Side's Douglas Park neighborhood early Saturday.
Raymond Parker, of South 12th Ave. in Maywood, was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 2:03 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner said.
Parker was sitting in a car on the 3200 block of West Ogden Avenue about 1:30 a.m. when someone in a passing car shot him multiple times, police News Affairs said. He has two gunshot wounds to his neck and two gunshot wounds to his left arm, police said.
A Saturday autopsy found Parker died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death is ruled a homicide, the medical examiner' said.
Police have no description of the shooter, who was said to be traveling in a gray four-door car. Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
•JESUS SANCHEZ, 18, is dead, fatally shot in what police believe may have been a gang-related murder.
The shooting happened at a gas station at 2006 W. Garfield Blvd. about 10:30 a.m., police said.
Police said Sanchez was shot while sitting in the passenger seat of a car at the gas station. Words were exchanged between people in his vehicle and another and shots were fired, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The teen was likely shot at the gas station but somehow either drove himself or was driven to 5544 S. Seeley Ave., where he collapsed from his injuries, Mirabelli said. That is two blocks from the gas station
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
•A MAN WAS SHOT in the chest Saturday afternoon in the West Side’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The shooting happened at 1109 N. Monticello Ave. about 3:45 p.m., according to Harrison District police, who said the man ran after being shot and collapsed at 1140 N. Monticello Ave.
The victim, who is believed be about 25, was shot in the right side of the chest and is in Mount Sinai Hospital.
Police said the shooting may have been gang-related as Harrison Area detectives investigate.
• TWO MEN WERE SHOT in the Near Southwest Side Pilsen neighborhood early Saturday.
The shooting happened at 19th and Loomis streets about 1:30 a.m., according to police News Affairs.
Two males were shot, both in the legs, in the incident. They are in John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Harrison Area detectives are investigating. No further infomation has yet been revealed.
• A TEEN WAS SHOT in the abdomen early Saturday during an armed robbery in the South Shore neighborhood.
The incident happened about 7:15 a.m. at 2851 E. 78th St., police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.
The victim, 19, was shot in the abdomen during a robbery and is in Northwestern Memorial Hospital in “stable” condition, Kubiak said.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
• A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL WAS SHOT on the South Side early Saturday by her brother, who was playing with a handgun at the time.
The incident happened about 12:15 a.m. on the 6200 block of South Dorchester Avenue, according to police News Affairs.
The girl shas a gunshot wound to the right thigh, shot while her brother was playing with a handgun on the street, police said. The girl and her brother both thought the weapon was empty.
The girl was taken to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, where is listed in "good" condition.
The incident is considered non-criminal and accidental, but Calumet Area detectives were conducting an investigation.
• JUST OUTSIDE THE HOUSE OF BLUES, police responding to calls of shots fired in the River North area did indeed find a shooting victim.
Just after 4 a.m. police responded to the area around the House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn. More than 1,000 people had gotten out of a show at the concert venue about that time, so crowd control was also a factor.
Police found the victim at 350 N. State St., shot in the buttocks.
The House of Blues was host to the rap acts Drake and Sly Polaroid for a show that began at 11:30 p.m. Friday.
