Woman sues Home Depot for over $1M following cart accident
May 15, 2009
A woman is suing Home Depot for more than $1 million after she was allegedly struck in the back by two employees pushing a "dangerously protruding" cart full of flooring materials at a Downers Grove store.
Laura Eatman filed the suit Thursday in Cook County Circuit Court against Home Depot, claiming she suffered both internal and external injuries following the Nov. 26, 2006 incident.
The suit says Eatman and her husband were shopping at the Home Depot, 2000 Butterfield Road in Downers Grove, when two employees pushing a cart full of flooring materials hit Eatman in in the back with the cart's “dangerously protruding” boards, the suit said.
After striking Eatman with the cart, the employees immediately stopped to re-maneuver the cart, yet they struck Eatman again with the boards as they attempted to readjust the cart, the suit said.
The suit claims Home Depot should not have allowed its employees to maneuver a cart without regard to Eatman's whereabouts and should not have allowed its employees to move a cart loaded with boards protruding from its sides.
Eatman says she suffered internal and external injures following the incident and lost a large sum of money due to medical bills and time away from work.
The suit seeks more than $1,000,000, plus the costs of the suit.
