CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Illinois' senior senator has a few suggestions for the President as Mr. Obama begins his search for a new Supreme Court justice. WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports from City Hall.
Senator Dick Durbin says he expects President Obama to name a potential replacement for retiring Justice David Souter who will have high integrity, the right judicial temperament and judicial skills. He’d also like to see a nominee with Chicago ties.
Durbin says there are some outstanding potential choices for the US Supreme Court right here in Chicago. He suggests Federal Judge Anne Williams, who’s African American, and fellow judges Diane Wood Reuben Castillo and Cook County States Attorney Anita Alvarez.
Durbin says there’s nothing wrong with ethnic or gender considerations factoring into the nomination. He says the court should look more like America.
