Girl, 6, injured in hit-and-run crash in Flossmoor

CHICAGO (WBBM) - A six-year-old Flossmoor girl suffered a broken leg in a hit-and-run accident on busy Western Avenue Thursday.

Police are seeking the driver, who allegedly disregarded a crossing guard's signal to stop, struck the girl, pulled over momentarily but then sped away.

The girl was on her way home from classes at the Western Avenue School, 840 Western Av., when she was struck.

Police have a good description of the vehicle, said to be a silver Chrysler sedan with a dark top and driver-side mirror damage, 2002 or newer.

Flossmoor Fire Department paramedics transported the girl to South Suburban Hospital, in Hazel Crest, but she was transferred a short time later to Christ Hospital, in Oak Lawn.  Her injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

Police are asking witnesses and anyone else who can assist their investigation to call them. (708) 957-4500.
